I-Card : Voter's Identity Card System

During 1994, Indian Election Commission was faced with a task that was gigantic by any international standard. In a short period of 90 days, it had delegated to itself the herculean task of equipping each citizen (of a country as populous as India) with a photo identity card. Clearly, call of the hour was to come up with a solution that was simple, stupid, cost effective and rugged enough to last in Indian conditions. Project was divided into various regions, with an agency made in charge of each regions. Project on the whole was a miserable failure (at national level) due to shear complexity, time constraint and size of task. However, solution designed and developed by Oasis Systems earned rave reviews in the corridors of Election Commission.

Key Features :

• Task subdivided into 3 sub-tasks, namely data entry, photography and publishing, with each of them handled by separate agencies.
• Complete software was DOS based, and hence (YES) more efficient, reliable as well as less costly.
• It required NO more than a 80286 based PC to merge-print (with negligible human intervention) data and person's image.
• Software requirement was also kept to bare minimum. Only MS-DOS! We did NOT even use standard device drivers that came with printers and frame grabber cards.
• Dual (English & local) language data entry/printing.
• Superior control over video images that were automatically grabbed by computer.
• Down-to-earth solution designed to succeed in rugged Indian conditions

E-Roll (Electoral Roll Creation Software)

Following miserable failure of Voter's Identity Card project at national level, Election Commission of India came up (in 1998) with this ambitious project to publish the "comprehensive (really)" database of electoral rolls published in PDF format on CD-ROM. This is an ORACLE database with well thought-out relational design linking 40+ tables. Oasis Systems won the contract to design and develop the "Electoral Roll Creation Software" for Gujarat State (having 30 Million Electors). This database is already created and published in local language (Gujarati) using E-Roll software from Oasis Systems.

Urdu Language Control (OasisUrdu)

In many states Election Commission has published the Elector Roll in Urdu language. Oasis System developed the library, i.e. DLL that was used to publish the Elector Roll in Urdu language. Original data was stored in English and regional language.
